If
you are looking for huge crowds and hot nightspots, you
need to go further west to Panama City 'cause it ain't happenin'
here! Alligator Point was not named because of an over abundance
of Alligators, it got it's name because from the air the
land is shaped like an alligator's tail. If you are unfamiliar
with the part of Florida where Alligator Point is located,
check out the Florida Panhandle map.
Although there is a restaurant on Alligator Point at the
Marina (we've never tried it), you are also only minutes
away from the finest seafood dining in Florida. Angelo's
restaurant, one of Florida Trend's Top 200 restaurants 8
years running, is only ten minutes away. Located at the
bridge in Panacea, Angelo's features fresh seafood cooked
in a traditional and not so traditional Greek style. The
Harbor House in Panacea has an excellent view of Dickerson
Bay with wonderful food to match. The Oaks restaurant, another
local favorite for over 47 years, is located at the bridge
in Panacea. Julia Mae's restaurant is another eating place
with great seafood located in Carrabelle, about 25 mins.
west on Hwy. 98 West from the house.
Alligator Point is also centrally located to a multitude
of recreational and sight-seeing activities. For the sportsperson,
there is Wildwood Country Club, a beautiful new golf course
right off Highway 98 in Wakulla county. This golf course
is open to the public and only 25 minutes away. For the
tennis buff, there are 6 new lighted tennis courts that
are free to use located about a mile west of Wildwood CC.
Fishing is more than superb in the area with Spanish mackerel,
grouper, trout, redfish, flounder, and mullet being some
of the local favorites.
